The Sanctuary
While production has been reasonably quiet in relative terms, preproduction has been quite busy for me. This has prevented me from updating the blog as much as I would like to, so this weekend I took the family for a quick trip up to Mt Dandenong to celebrate an Anniversary! Bronte hadn’t been to see William Ricketts Sanctuary, so I thought Angelo would also enjoy discovering the sculptures hidden in the rainforest walks near the township of Olinda. The day was beautiful and sunny and not too cold. Mt Dandenong can get rather cold at times.

Discovery
We walked for a couple of hours exploring the rather strange world of William Rickett. He was quite a distinctive artist and perhaps produced some of the most romantically cliched effigies of local Aboriginals that I know of, however they are quite beautifully done and age has lent them a sense of authenticity that I’m sure even William Rickett didn’t expect.

Aboriginal Effigy
The last time I had walked through the Sanctuary, William Rickett was still alive! My Grandmother had some how been involved with William Rickett through Music. So for me this was a step back in time. Angelo had great fun and it gave both Bronte and myself reason to blast away with our cameras! I have my 5D MKII while Bronte was using the older but still very capable 5D. Occasionally I used flash due to the light being so low in the dark confines of the rainforest.
